A United code share with SAS Airlines to Oslo Gardermoen Airport was supposed to leave at 10:45a but arrived late. No worries since we had three hours between that and the last flight to Reykjavik. Sitting in Economy Class, the short flight to Oslo on a 737-800 had three seats on each side, and touched down at 12:50p.

Once off the plane in Oslo, follow passengers toward exit until you spot a sign to your left that says, “International Transit Passengers” – International only and not for Domestic connections; Oslo to Iceland is an International Connection. Show boarding pass or itinerary, passports and put all hand luggage through X-ray.

TIP: Many passengers purchased Duty Free at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and all liquids over 3 ounces were confiscated and tossed in the trash by Security at this point.

Now in the International Section of Gardermoen Airport with plenty of time before the last flight of the day to Iceland, we entered the SAS Lounge. SAS has a decent array of food (not great, “Decent”); tomato soup, breads, a cream cheese spread, meatballs, potato salad and regular green salad with plenty of liquid refreshment but not even close to Lufthansa quality.

We’re almost there… Two free Business Class tickets (thank you United miles) on SAS Airlines to Keflavik International Airport (KEF) at 4:35p on another 737-800. These were not true “Business Class” seats. It was again 3-3 seats and we were in the second row of SAS Plus, their “Business Class” that includes a meal. Woo-woo… Passengers were given a meal box containing a small salad, tasty couscous with slices of pork, a piece of French chocolate and a chocolate brownie along with free alcoholic and soft beverages on this 2:30 flight.

There is an ATM right in baggage claim, there is no customs and there is no passport control at Keflavik. Suitcase began circling, and we waited…and waited…until the last suitcase was off, without Marine Steve’s making an appearance, the second time this year. Arghh… Is he going to have to wear my underpants again?

Only his suitcase missing but unlike India (the last “missing suitcase” situation that took five days to resolve), it took a competent employee only two minutes to fill out the necessary paperwork and give assurance that it should arrive tomorrow on the next flight. You win some, you lose some…
